The Lentz family connection to Grays Harbor goes back to the early 1900s.  Don and Bob followed their father into the flower business, but then in the late 1940s began purchasing pieces of forest land, collecting eight parcels totaling 997 acres, all in Grays Harbor County.  These eight parcels are now managed by Don’s three sons: Don Jr., Ken and Mike and their families. They have been a part of the American Tree Farm System since 1988.  All three are now retired from careers in the forest industry, giving them time to tend the needs of their tree farm.  As they put it, “Our business operation is driven by the desire to keep all members happy and to get the highest value for our products.  This has been accomplished by being open and transparent, honest and forthright.” Once a harvest has been complete, they replant within a year with Douglas-fir, western hemlock, and western redcedar.  They regularly consult with Washington State DNR and the Grays Harbor Conservation District. For recreation the family regularly hunts and fishes on their various parcels.  They find pleasure in just watching their trees grow. In April 2025 they were named 2025 Washington State Tree Farmer of the Year.  View the video about them that was shown at the Awards Luncheon.
