Association of Consulting Foresters

An association of professional foresters who are available as consultants.  From their web page, you can search for ACF-certified consultants by state or region.

Society of American Foresters

An organization of professional foresters that offers continuing education for foresters and recognizes those who meet certain standards as Certified Foresters.  You can search their site to find all Certified Foresters in Washington or limit your search to those who are Consulting Foresters.

Washington Contract Loggers Association

An association for loggers that provides training to loggers to become Master Certified Loggers.  Their web site includes a Master Logger List where you can search for Master Certified Loggers or check to be sure that your logger is certified.  Certified loggers receive training to ensure that they understand state regulations about logging and use safe logging practices. 

The Washington State Consulting Foresters and Silvicultural Contractors Directory has recently been updated by WSU Extension and is available online.  It includes specific information for each of the professionals, including contact information, services provided, bonding and insurance information, experience, and counties served. Inclusion in the directory is voluntary. All information is provided by the forestry professionals themselves.

Public Agencies

Natural Resources Conservation Service

NRCS provides financial assistance (cost share) through EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program), WHIP (Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program) and WLFW (Working Lands for Wildlife)

Washington Department of Natural Resources, Small Forest Landowner Office

SFLO can help with Alternate Plans for situations such as overstocked stands and with Long Term Forest Practices Applications. They provide financial assistance to those who qualify for the Family Forest Fish Passage Program (FFFPP) and the Forest Riparian Easement Program (FREP).

WSU Forestry Extension

WSU Forestry and Wildlife Extension program provides education and information about forest management to private forest landowners as well as the general public. They offer classes, workshops, and field days as well as publications, videos, and online resources.
