Report on October 2025 Meeting
Our last meeting was October 18 at the South Conboy Community Forest near Glenwood, WA. The
community forest is managed by the Mt. Adams Resource Stewards (MARS). Jay McLaughlin from MARS
gave us a tour of a 180 acre block in the forest and discussed their projects and objectives:
– Reduce stand density
– Increasing heterogeneity
– Public use
– Disposed of slash and re-planted 35 acre clear cut
– Commercial thinning on 90 acres
– this led to discussion about losing the local market for pine. Only doug fir could be
harvested at the time
– Cut-to-length vs. whole tree yarding
– Prescribed burning
9 chapter members attended, including 2 new members (they signed up after attending our last meeting).
We also discussed some winter meeting topics and potential tours for next year

Report on June 2025 Meeting
We held our last meeting on June 21 at member Jim Tindall’s property in Husum, WA. He has spent nearly forty years managing his land. We got to tour most of his 20 acres, and he discussed some of his projects with us:
- improving pasture soils and eradicating cheatgrass, sowing other varieties
- thinning and managing understoring to improve conditions of fir and pine forest
- successfully expanding stands of Oregon White Oak (planting acorns and saplings) and removing competition
We all learned a lot and enjoyed seeing his diverse forests, especially the path he made that goes down to the White Salmon River. The tour concluded with a potluck at Jim’s house.
