Our family tree farmers manage their forests for enjoyment and reasonable economic returns while providing forest resource benefits such as clean water, clean air, and wildlife habitat for public benefit.
WFFA members come from all walks of life. Some members are full-time tree farmers while others hold full time jobs in addition to managing their forest land. Many members use the income from timber sales to save for retirement or as a college fund for children or grandchildren.
Some members of our association make their living from timber harvests while others simply enjoy being in the forest and look forward to the work of managing their land.
Our tree farmers are working hard to protect their forests from fire, insects and disease, to maintain water and soil quality and to conserve wildlife habitat. Tree Farmers are also committed to educating the public about the value of private forests.
What We Do
One purpose
of the Washington Farm Forestry Association is to promote the development of
fair taxation and regulation on the federal, state and local government levels
so that tree farming can continue through generations as a viable and attractive
way of life.
A second purpose is to promote educational programs to improve forest stewardship and to increase public awareness of the importance of family tree farms.
Local Farm Forestry chapters sponsor educational meetings and tours of local tree farms to share the most effective tree farming techniques. WFFA also works with the Department of Natural Resources and other state and federal agencies to provide training on how to comply with forest practices rules and regulations.
WFFA members also receive a free copy of Northwest Woodlands magazine, other publications of interest to small woodland owners and a copy of the association's monthly newsletter with information to help members stay current on issues affecting them and their land.
Why You Should
Join
Now more than ever people who manage small forest lands need to know the laws,
rules and regulations that affect their land. They also need people fighting
for their
rights and interests while those laws and regulations are being formulated.
The Washington Farm Forestry Association is dedicated to protecting the interests
of small woodland owners across the state.
More Profitable
Forests
Small woodland owners can also benefit from sharing ideas and information about
new techniques and practices that lead to bigger and more profitable harvests
and healthier forests. Sharing ideas through our local chapters could help you
earn more from your tree farm than you ever thought possible.
Fellowship
You will be invited to seminars, field days and workshops that can help you
learn how to achieve the goals you've set for your tree farm. You'll also be
invited to our annual meeting where you can meet, share experiences and enjoy
the fellowship of tree farmers from all over the state.
