News of Interest to members of Washington Farm Forestry Association

This is the second issue of a newsletter that we plan to issue at irregular intervals, as the news collects.  It will contain articles and links to information that may be of interest to WFFA members, but which are not directly related to the activities of the organization.  We hope it will consolidate some of the duplicate forwarded e-mails that go around.  You may "unsubscribe" if you wish, but please bear with us for a few months as we try to put this process in place.  Please note the Table of Contents above this column which will allow you to quickly determine if there is anything that interests you.  Also, don't be scared to print this because the background color doesn't print!

A MESSAGE FROM DNR

I wanted to make sure and send you a special invitation to our upcoming TFW meeting on Thursday. Due to the timing of the 15 year application rule

becoming effective we invited Kristi Tausch from the Division to come down and give us the details as to how to obtain one.  Since we already had that on the agenda I added a few more things that would be of interest to the small forest landowner group.

I am hoping that you might be able to spread the word for us so those with interest can attend.  It will be a good meeting, hope to see you there.

At their September Board meeting, the Washington Forest Practice Board passed rule making for allowing 15 year permit applications for Tree Farmers.  Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and other state agencies are now 'gearing up' to accept 15 year applications on Oct. 30th from small forest landowners who are interested in them.  An educational outreach process is also being planned for later this month by DNR.  If you wish to get a jump on the information about this process, you are invited to attend a Timber, Fish & Wildlife (TFW) meeting on Thursday of this week at Lewis and Clark State park in Lewis County located aprox. 12 miles south of Chehalis and just east of I-5.  Directions: Take I-5 to Exit #68.  Go east on Hwy 12 aprox. 3 miles to Jackson Hwy.  Go right (south) on Jackson Hwy aprox. 3 more miles to park entrance.  Follow the TFW meeting signs.
