Join us at 4:00 for a guided tour by one of our own
members, Dr. Ed Lester, an avid Naturalist, who will guide us
through one of the region's well kept woodland secrets. The Finch Arboretum
contains 100's of conifers and deciduous species of interest to
anyone who loves trees. We have arranged an easy walking tour through the
arboretum. We may get to see the early fall colors on many of the trees. Matt
Castle, Stewardship forester and Prevention specialist, from the
Washington State D.N.R., will also be on hand to update us on the user
friendly fuels reduction program that could help thin your forest and also help "firesafe"
it at a reasonable cost.
Easy
directions: from downtown Spokane, get on Second Avenue going
West. Go towards Brown's addition, traveling beneath
the overpass at Maple. (This is the South end of the Maple Street Bridge Route) Proceed past
the Rosauer's on your right and get in the Right lane
that takes you across the bridge at Latah Creek. In a short while, you will
come to a stoplight at Government
Way, which is the beginning of Sunset Hill.
After the stop light, look for the sign that says Finch Arboretum next
Right. Go right at that point and then follow the street that
leads into the Arboretum. Park near the Woodland Center, where we will meet inside.
Bring a brown bag to compliment snacks and beverages that will be on hand. Call
292-0866 or 939-8511 for more information or questions.
